Watering Tips:

Water your plants gently! Remove your top pot and throughly water. Next, WATER INDIRECTLY. Using the shower position on your water hose, water the sides of your pots starting at the top. By spraying the 6 inch pot for a few seconds, the water will run in the 8 inch pot and also around into the 10 inch pot below it. Then water the 10 inch pot and the water will run into each of the 10 inch pots. You can water inside the 12 inch pot because it remains flat. Move up and down your pots until you are satisfied that you Plant Stand has been throughly watered.

Planting Tips:

Potting soil works best. Dirt is heavy and messy. It's important when selecting plants that a lot of attention is payed to their watering cycle. If more than one plant is potted in the same pot, how they are watered is of real importance. Both plants must take equal watering. Where you place you Plant Stand is important. The plants will all receive either the same amount of sun or shade, so be sure and understand how the elements will effect each pot and plants.

How can I keep my clay pots from drying out so fast?

Here are some solutions you might try;

1. Before planting, spray the inside and outside of your clay pots with quick drying clear coat spray paint. This will help seal the inside of the pots.

2. Cut and place a dense sponge in the bottom of the smaller clay pots and place a coffee filter on top. Use only gray coffee filters because they don't contain bleach. The sponge will hold water and allow the plant to absorb the water back into the roots.

3. Fill the bottom half of the top three pots with the white shipping peanuts. The peanuts will help hold moisture and lighten the top half of the plant stand.

4. Diana from Pittsburgh,KS uses mulch on top of the potting soil to help hold moisture and control the loss of potting soil.

5. Darlene uses the Aqua Pods from the Park Seed Co., South Carolina. The pods are placed in the bottom of the clay pots and swell up when watered. The pods retain water and release it over time.

6. Rose, a master gardener from Louisana uses marbles placing them in the bottom of the top 3 pots. This is to prevent potting soil from draining out of the pots.

Having trouble watering?

Try this simple solution! Keep your potting soil horizontal with the ground in the pots that lean. Your plants will still grow upwards, your potting soil won't run out, and you don't need special hoses or tubes inside your pots. This will require planting each pot after you slide it on the stand. The only thing I do different at home is to remove my 6" pot when I water it. I also place a dense sponge covering it with a coffee filter in my 6" pot to hold additional moisture.
